If you ask me, Duke Nukum Forever is probably NOT the worst game put out neither this year, nor likely to be a cult classic that is ‘so bad it is good’. Yet, give the miles of words written and the opinions on all sides given it is still the most talked about game in weeks.
Why all the smoke with no fire? Why do people talk about the game they think is worth ignoring and get mad as more people talk about it? I think it is because for all the negativity it really is not a horrible game...just a bad one. But it is an important game even if it is bad, important for the time it took, important as a gauge for passage of time, and important at showing how far gaming has come.
But even if it is important should be play it? I say, in some cases, “Yes, do play it.”
My opinion is, If you want to talk about it, do yourself the favor of playing it. Why? Well, if you want have an opinion you would do well to form it after playing it. And, you WILL at some point want to talk about it. We can all imagine in ten years time, most people will say, “Gawd, Duke Nukum Forever was crap!” And someone will ask (quite rightly), “Did you actually PLAY it?” And, of course, the answer for most will be ‘no, they did not play it at all’ and thus their opinion is moot.
So, for those that desire to discuss this game in the future I say, “Buying it, playing it, and experience in the mess” or in the future phrase you words such that you admit you never played it.
