I know I brought this up eight years ago when I was last on Match.com, yes, I actually poked around there again,...I must be crazy...or desperate. However, here is my beef with some women. (I am just saying some) Just because all Americans are clinically obese does not mean obese women are the new "average". I will admit there are not many choices: Slender, Big and beautiful, About average, Curvy, Athletic and toned, Full-figured, Heavyset, A few extra pounds, and Stocky are all you get. However, fat is still fat. Moreover, who do these women think they are? This is Match.com not the Foundation for the Blind! I see your picture! I see YOUR DAMN picture with two chins, a big belly, and cankles! I am even willing to accept that "average" for most women would be 15-20 lbs above ideal body weight and that another 10 lbs above EVEN THAT. I am willing to say, “Yes, those ideal healthy weights are hard to get to or maintain on our western diets. But, 20-25 lbs above ideal is all I can give you for avaerge. Now, here is the deal for the women on Match.com. I might actually give you a chance if you do not lie. I will accept that you are trying to lose weight, as long as you say you actually weigh now. (BTW: I don’t lie on my Match.com profile…it is honest…it might not be what I want it to be but I am what I say I am.)

You know what it is? The word average has lost its meaning when it comes to weight. Just as healthy would lose it meaning on a planet being bombarded by gamma rays from a sun going supernova.
However, I do not think we should abandon the concept of average being "healthy for your age, size, and build.” I think if we go down the road of “unhealthy” being the new "average" we are going to be in a lot of real trouble as a species.
We cowards if we cannot say we are fat when we are fat. We are cowards when we say people cannot call us fat when we ARE fat. We are cowards if we cry about protecting children's self-esteem when all kids need to do is look in the mirror to have their image crushed.
Ironic, that we gasp when an anorexic looks in the mirror to see fat when they are skin & bones; but we shrug when we look in the mirror to see "average" instead of obese.
I'm fat, I'm not proud of it, and I don't think it is okay.
