For the past six months, my library has had PS2 games out for loan. It was a tiny collection of about a dozen games, but there was a nice variety of titles.
This week we added PS3, XB 360, and Wii games to the collection. We are starting small, about five or six titles for each console, but it is a start and we plan to buy more. I’m not sure how much money they plan to spend per year, but my guess is each system will get roughly six games per year.
The girl who was ordering the games was just choosing titles by the covers, but I showed here how to loom at Metacritic. I hear the screams of protest, but think about it. She does not have time to read reviews or drop down on a website and absorb a lifetimes worth of knowledge about video games. She needs a quick metric for deciding if she should buy Iron Man 2: The Movie: The Videogame or if she should buy DiRT 3. Metacritic took her hand and led her down the righteous pay towards DiRT 3, so it can’t be very bad at its job.

Maybe this is a good way to give some of those sleeper hits some much needed exposure, such as Majin and The Forsaken Kingdom (PS3, xbox 360).

Wow, the kids must be tuned in because a day after they were in the catalog we got requests from other affiliate libraries.
I suppose that proves how popular games are becoming, even just E to T games. I was even thinking about taking out Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12 in a few weeks, just for funnzies.
